We have a first stop at Miss Laura's Social Club, at left, once an infamous bordello, now the Visitor Center for the city, the only one of its kind in America. The Center is a gold mine of history about the city and the places to see and things to do. We also will visit the Fort Smith Historical Site, the number one attraction in Fort Smith, site of the original town, and we will tour the old courtroom of hanging judge Isaac Parker.

Our group will visit the Clayton House, now the Clayton Museum, built in 1874 by W.H.H. Clayton, a local prosecutor and patriarch of a family prominent in local politics. It is a 2 1/2 story elaborate Victorian wood frame structure in excellent condition and one of the few of its type to survive. The house is haunted by not one but at least two ghosts: an older gentleman with an angry demeanor is occasionally seen by startled guests, as well as a woman flitting from room to room or spied behind curtains from outside the home. Perhaps we'll see both of these apparitions during our visit! Have cameras ready!

Register for this trip, and the Mar 8 trip to Ponca City by January 13 and receive a free trip to the Muskogee Azalea Festival!

While our group originally intended to lunch at a downtown Fort Smith restaurant, we would have been eating in a private room with limited space, and we were uncomfortable with this arrangement. The Prioress of St. Scholastica came to our rescue, inviting us to dine with the nuns during their noon meal, which sounded wonderful to us, what will probably be a completely unique experience for all of us. That's what life should be about!
